Scott Rogers is founder and director of the University of Miami School of Law's Mindfulness in Law Program.  He is also co-director of the University of Miami's Mindfulness Research and Practice Initiative. He has been a students of mindfulness and other contemplative practices for more than 35 years.  His concentration on mindfulness is rooted in his belief that it offers one of the most effective means of encouraging meaningful inner work and growth. Professor Rogers earned a B.S. in 1981 and an M.S. in 1985 in psychology from University of Florida, and a J.D. from University of Florida College of Law in 1991, graduating summa cum laude. Upon graduating from law school, he clerked for Chief Judge Maurice Paul in the Northern District of Florida and with Rosemary Barkett, on both the Supreme Court of Florida and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Thereafter he practiced commercial litigation with White & Case and then joined an Internet company as its general counsel and president.

In 2010 Scott joined the Miami Law faculty. The Mindfulness in Law Program is the first in the country. At Miami Law, Scott has introduced and teaches courses that integrate mindfulness into the curriculum, including Mindfulness in Law, Mindfulness and Motivating Business Compliance (with Professor Robert Rosen), Mindfulness & Negotiation (with Harley Tropin), Mindful Ethics (with Jan Jacobowitz), and Mindful Leadership. Since 2008 he has been teaching Jurisight, a 1L elective that integrates mindfulness insights and exercises into a discussion of the exciting and challenging first year experience. In 2012 Scott received the "Richard Hausler Golden Apple Award" for his contributions to the Miami Law student body.

In 2010 Scott co-founded with cognitive neuroscientist, Amishi Jha, UMindfulness, the University of Miami's Mindfulness Research and Practice Initiative. In 2011, Scott began working with members of the UM Miller School of Medicine faculty to introduce mindfulness to medical students and the medical school community. In 2012, her trained the University of Miami's Faculty and Staff Assistance Program.

In 2011 Scott helped co-found the Mindfulness in Law Joint Task Force of the Dade County Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association (South Florida Chapter). In 2012, Professor Rogers was awarded the "Richard Hausler Golden Apple Award" for his contributions, academically and through extra-curricular activities, to the student body. He was also presented with the "2012 Sookie Williams/Daily Business Review Award for Exemplary Service to the Miami-Dade Legal Community" for his work helping to integrate mindfulness into the legal profession. In 2015 the Florida Bar’s Center for Professionalism awarded him the Florida Bar Law Faculty Professionalism Award. In 2018 he was recipient of Mindful Kids Miami's "Mindfulness Ambassador" award. He is a regular columnist for the ABA GP Solo Journal's "Mindfulness 101" and The Florida Bar News' "The Mindful Lawyer" columns.

Scott is the immediate past co-president of the Mindfulness in Law Society and serves on the Board of Advisors of "Warrior One" and the Florida Community of Mindfulness' "Mindfulness Institute."

Scott is a regular speaker at law schools, bar programs, and judicial conferences across the country. Scott also presents on mindfulness to teachers, physicians, medical students, business leaders, nurses, educators, accountants, therapists, and parents.

He has appeared on television, HuffPost Live, Fusion, National Public Radio, and been interviewed for magazines and newspapers across the world. Professor Rogers is the author of numerous law review and bar journal articles on mindfulness in law, peer-review neuroscience papers on the efficacy of mindfulness practice in high stress professions, and of the books Mindfulness for Law Students: Applying the Power of Mindful Awareness to Achieve Balance and Success in Law School which is being used in law schools across the country, The Six-Minute Solution: A Mindfulness Primer for Lawyers, Mindful Parenting, Mindfulness and Professional Responsibility: A Guide Book for Integrating Mindfulness into the Law School Curriculum, "The Elements of Mindfulness," and the law school text, "The Mindful Law Student: A Mindfulness in Law Practice Guide" (Elgar, 2022).
